6.0. Examiners for the IELTS exam have also advised that the exam was redesigned for 2006, based on new research and so it is even harder for non-native speakers.
 

"A band score of 6 is extremely difficult for people who speak English as a foreign language", said an English Tutor in Sydney. "It is now even harder."

"I strongly recommend anyone planning to do the IELTS exam to do as many practice tests as possible and hire a private tutor to help with the speaking test. An IELTS preparation course is also important", he continued.

"If you really don't think you'll get a 6 in the exam to be able to apply for PR, you really should try and do the exam before March 2007 to give you time to get your result and put in your application."

This may be a problem for many students as most IELTS exam testing registration centres in Sydney are already booked up to the end of May. Students are now lining up on an almost daily basis in the hope that someone will cancel. (You cannot book an IELTS test online, you must appear at an IELTS testing centre in person)
